What changed in practice?
Targeted chemical placement is another route to less waste
65% less chemical use per well. Unnamed field trials; geography unspecified. 2025 paper · trial dates unknown.
Operator, geography, well population, raw baseline, cost perimeter and installation costs unknown. This does not establish all-in ROI or scaled deployment.

Weatherford tests automated rod-lift control in North Dakota
Weatherford says an unnamed North Dakota customer tested recommendation and automatic control modes on 20 rod-lift wells. It says the customer later expanded to more than 700 wells sharing the same controller type.
Weatherford reports 20 stock tank barrels of oil per day of incremental output after a speed change on one pilot well. It gives no average uplift for the pilot or the expanded well population.
Limits: Supplier-reported expansion does not establish current commissioned scope or outcomes across those wells. The source does not give sustained uplift, failure rates, costs or net ROI.

Targeted chemical placement is another route to less waste
A Weatherford-hosted technical-paper abstract reports 65% less chemical use per well and 52% lower operating expense in capillary-injection field trials.
Results are from the public abstract of SPE-227643-MS; the full paper was not reviewed.
Limits: Operator, geography, well population, raw baseline, cost perimeter and installation costs unknown. This does not establish all-in ROI or scaled deployment.

A rod-lift retrofit recovers energy on one U.S. well
Weatherford reports the first commercial installation of its ForeSite Power Regenerative System retrofit on an existing U.S. rod-lift well. It captures and reuses energy generated during each pumping cycle.
Weatherford reports over 50% energy savings on this installation. Metering method, comparison baseline, test duration and operating conditions are unspecified. No capex, total operating cost or payback is reported.
Limits: Anonymous single-installation supplier claim. Do not treat the percentage as company-wide energy savings, production uplift, net cash ROI or an AI result. The word ForeSite links a brand family, not proof this equipment used the PDO predictive model.

Q3 call: what we checked
Full transcript screen · call 2026-10-21
Complete 18-page original issuer-hosted edited transcript downloaded and topically screened through Q&A close. Whole-document AI, intelligence, ML, software, digital, automation, autonomous, pilot, scale and failure searches; matching context and adoption discussion read. Not a replay-audio verification.
Weatherford includes digital in its portfolio expansion. In Q&A, management says offshore-completion adoption takes integration, a track record and customer willingness to try new technology.
No isolated AI operating measure or financial return.
Limits: The adoption discussion concerns completion technology, not a named AI rollout. It establishes neither AI failure nor disappointing AI ROI. Scope, comparison, cost and AI control boundaries are undisclosed.
