CNRL now targets first-half 2027 solvent injection at Kirby South

CNRL’s Q3 release puts the Kirby South pilot’s planned diluent injection in the first half of 2027. The strong production it cites comes from new wells before that injection.

The new disclosure is a timing update, not a measured solvent benefit. It gives no pilot-specific production uplift, steam-to-oil reduction, solvent recovery, cost saving or return.

Limits: An updated plan, not proof of commissioning, cancellation, failure or economic scale-up. The Q3 passage does not establish the current Kirby North operating status. Do not transfer older >80% recovery or expected steam/cost benefits to Kirby South or the full asset base.

CNRL puts an annual savings figure on hydrogen optimization

CNRL says AI helps optimize hydrogen in its oil-sands upgrading operations.

The company reports about CAD 8 million in annual savings. This is a gross savings claim, without a disclosed all-cost ROI.

Limits: No site, baseline, measurement period or attribution method is given. The CAD 107 million total on the slide mixes savings and revenue from several projects; it is not an AI total. Existing AI-279 reliability results are separate.
